The Qualcomm Snapdragon XR1 AR Smart Viewer Reference Design is Qualcomm’s first augmented reality (AR) reference design based on the Qualcomm Snapdragon XR1 Platform. Equipped to deliver high-performance, immersive experiences and lower power consumption, the AR Smart Viewer helps advance the AR industry and helps OEM reduce the time it takes to make working products. The AR smart viewer reference design is optimized for devices powered by Snapdragon Mobile Platforms, and can be tethered to a compatible smartphone, Windows PC, or processing puck. As opposed to a simple viewer, some processing happens onboard the reference design, helping distribute computing workloads between the viewer and the host device. The AR smart viewer also packs significant performance features, including split-processing for reduction in overall power consumption, 2D app framework so users can watch premium movies and streaming services, and PC tethering support. That allows users to anchor virtual PC windows in the real world. The AR smart viewer also includes support for an 8MB RGB camera with image stabilization. Dual monochrome cameras enable six-degrees of freedom (6DoF) head tracking and hand tracking with gesture recognition. The Qualcomm Snapdragon XR1 AR Smart Viewer Reference Design will continue to drive the XR ecosystem forward. Use it to accelerate the design and development of commercial Smart Viewer solutions and deliver high-quality, immersive experiences using AR Smart Viewer architecture. With the Snapdragon Spaces™ XR Developer Platform, developers have a unique opportunity to reimagine reality. It paves the way to a new frontier of spatial computing, empowering developers to create immersive experiences for smart glasses that adapt to the spaces around us. The Snapdragon Spaces XR Developer Platform reduces developer friction by providing a uniform set of augmented reality features independent of device manufacturers. This allows developers to seamlessly blend the lines between our physical and digital realities and transform the world around us in ways limited only by our imaginations. There are many features of the Snapdragon Spaces XR Development Platform that let you build beyond limits. For example, positional tracking maps the environment and estimates the location, position, and orientation of the smart glasses in six degrees of freedom within 3D space. This enables developers to understand and track the end-user’s position relative to the world. With scene understanding, the smart glasses gain semantic knowledge about select elements of the physical space. The Snapdragon Spaces XR Development Platform supports the semantic understanding of floors, walls, and ceilings in a scene. Finally, hand tracking enables the recognition, tracking, and meshing of a user’s hands to enable more natural, intuitive, fast, and precise input when interacting with the augmented world without the need for physical controllers. These are only a few of the features included in the Snapdragon Spaces XR Development Platform. Together, they unlock virtually endless possibilities for developers. Working with Qualcomm means partnering with an augmented reality pioneer with over a decade of experience in AR. We help our partners develop augmented reality experiences that sense and intelligently interact with the physical environment and the user to create the illusion that these kinds of experiences are a part of the real world. Additionally, you can join Qualcomm’s active community of Snapdragon Spaces developers to access our network of partners that help bring your ideas to life and market faster. snapdragon 850 Qualcomm's new Snapdragon 850 platform was announced at Computex 2018, along with the news that Samsung is the latest partner to plan a device around it. Devices based on the 850 should ship in time for your holiday purchasing pleasure, according to Qualcomm. Whether you call them by their marketing moniker, "always-connected computers," or their more technical description of "Windows on Arm," Qualcomm wants its processor to beat as its heart. The first generation of laptops built on its Snapdragon 835 the Asus NovaGo and the Lenovo Miix 630, for example had a pretty faint pulse, despite showing some early promise. Now the company is hoping to change that image with the Snapdragon 850, essentially the same processor as the 845 that's in flagship phones Snapdragon XR1 UltraHD The Snapdragon XR1 Platform is designed to allow users to get further immersed in their favorite movies, programs and sports by supporting UltraHD 4K video resolution at 30 frames per second. Qualcomm Spectra ISP The Qualcomm Spectra™ ISP, a product of Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. and/or its subsidiaries, in a Snapdragon XR1 Platform has new dedicated hardware and software algorithms that can eliminate unwanted noise, creating a substantially superior final picture. Integrated display processor The integrated display processor in the Snapdragon XR1 Platform supports a range of display options with hardware accelerated composition, 3D overlays, and support for leading graphics APIs including OpenGL, OpenCL, and Vulkan—allowing users to experience breathtaking and beautiful immersion. Advanced vision processing The platform also features advanced vision processing capabilities necessary for technologies like Visual Inertial Odometry (VIO)—so users within AR experiences can move around in a virtual world or interact with augmented objects. Audio The Snapdragon XR1 Platform uses a variety of our audio technologies including our 3D Audio Suite, Qualcomm Aqstic™ Audio Technologies, and Qualcomm® aptX™ Audio, products of Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. and/or its subsidiaries, for high-fidelity audio experiences and always-on, wake-word activated voice assistance, as well as Bluetooth playback. And head-related transfer functions (HRTF) enable users’ ears to synthesize binaural sound that feels like it’s coming from a specific point in space.
From the metaverse and beyond, XR developers are continuously raising the bar and breaking new ground to deliver unforgettable AR productivity, wellness, and gaming experiences.
