Ready to learn from Chargeback Gurus about how you can prevent Visa (and other brands) chargebacks and fraud? Schedule a demo with us here: 🤍 Visa is the largest card network, with over $1 trillion in annual purchase volume, so it's important for merchants to understand Visa's processes for handling chargebacks. A Visa chargeback refers to a chargeback where the cardholder used a Visa-branded credit card. It may also be known as a Visa Dispute. Understanding the Visa chargeback rules will help merchants know how to prevent chargebacks, win disputes, and lower their chargeback rate. While the process for handling chargebacks is similar across different card networks, there are some differences for each. For example, each card network has its own set of reason codes. For Visa, the company categorizes reason codes based off of four different classifications. These include Fraud, Authorization, Processing Errors, and Customer Disputes. Identifying and examining the Visa chargeback reason code associated with a dispute helps a merchant better understand why the chargeback happened in the first place. Not only do Visa's reason codes differ from other card networks, but also what counts as compelling evidence for the chargeback representment process may be slightly different from others. Evidence should include proof that the customer knowingly participated in the transaction and received the intended benefit from it. Visa usually gives merchants 30 days to respond to each step in the chargeback process. The most notable exception is after a pre-arbitration chargeback. If the merchant wants to pursue arbitration, they have 10 days to respond. 🤍

What Is A CHARGEBACK? #shorts Sometimes, it might be necessary to dispute a credit card charge. It may be that you have received a damaged item after ordering it online, but the retailer won't accept it back. Maybe you ordered something online but never received it, or maybe you paid with your credit card twice, but your order was fine. in all of these scenarios, you might be better off pursuing a chargeback on your credit card rather than asking for a refund. chargebacks are a valuable tool if you deserve your money back, and sometimes are the only way to get it back for a service that was not delivered. Visa reason code category refers to a set of codes that are used by Visa to categorize the reason why a particular transaction was declined or flagged for review. These codes are designed to provide merchants and card issuers with more information about the specific reason for a declined transaction, which can help them identify and address issues more effectively. Visa has defined several reason code categories, including: #chargeback #visa #viralvideo 🤍chargebackexpertz.com

Pre-arbitration chargeback is a colloquial term used to refer to a second chargeback on a single transaction. This occurs when a chargeback is filed, reversed based on some successful representment efforts by the merchant, then reinstated by the issuer due to new information resurfacing. None of the card brands use the term “pre-arbitration chargeback” to describe this occurrence but it is nonetheless used informally within the payments industry. 🤍
Attention fraud fighters! For all the latest news around financial crime, fraud risk management, risk ops for banks, fraud detection, fraud prevention, and other financial guidance, please subscribe to our channel: 🤍 TRANSCRIPT: Visa recently announced its long-awaited changes to its chargeback rules. The purpose of the changes is to stop first-party fraud. What is first-party fraud? Well, this is better known by two other names within the industry: friendly fraud or "first-party misuse," a reclassification being lobbied by the Merchant Risk Council. Here's how first-party fraud works: - I, as a consumer, purchase goods or services from a merchant. - Once I've received those goods or services, I then contact my bank and tell them I didn't make the transaction. - My bank refunds me for that transaction and raises a chargeback via the merchant’s acquiring bank - the Acquirer subsequently passes that chargeback back onto the merchant. So what’s Visa doing to try and combat this issue? Well, the changes they've made refer to dispute condition 10.4, which relates to fraud in card-absent environments. And really, what Visa is saying is that if either the merchant or the acquirer can prove that the consumer who raised the dispute is a known good customer, they will cancel the chargeback. So how does Visa define what a known good customer is? Ultimately, a known good customer has to have made two previously undisputed transactions using the same payment credentials. What do I mean by “undisputed transactions”? I mean that the card issuer has not reported either of these two transactions for fraudulent activity to Visa. Now, not only this, but those transactions have to have occurred 120 days before the dispute is made. There are also a number of data points that must be consistent against both the disputed and undisputed transactions. Both these disputed and undisputed transactions have to share two of the same data points out of this list of four: - either a customer account ID/login ID - a delivery address - a device fingerprint or device ID or - an IP address. Now, the only caveat here is at least one of those two data points needs to be at least a device ID, a device fingerprint, or an IP address. As with any changes made by the card scheme, these changes will not happen overnight. Acquirers, issuers, and merchants have until April 25, 2023, to implement these changes. Thanks for listening. Ready to see how Chargeback Gurus can help you get your chargebacks under control? Schedule a demo with us here: 🤍 Many gas station pumps still use card readers that rely on the magnetric strip instead of the more secured EMV chip payment method. Because of this, these businesses may be more susceptible to chargebacks and fraud, and they must be prepared to handle the disputes that come in. At gas stations, the use of non-EMV card readers is especially troublesome because of electronic devices known as card skimmers. Card skimmers are devices that fraudsters insert into the payment terminals so that when a customer swipes their card, the device reads the card information off of the magnetic stripe. The fraudster can then use this data and information from the cards to create cloned cards with that information or use it in transactions where the physical card is not required such as in eCommerce. On average one credit card skimmer device can contain the data from up to 80 different credit cards, so gas stations need to be aware of this problem plaguing them and their customers. While some gas stations may choose to address this issue by upgrading to the more secure EMV payment terminals, many may not due to cost. However, choosing not to address fraud from credit card skimmers will result in revenue loss for the gas station through chargebacks or a customer choosing not to come back. Want to hear more about how you can stay up to date on card network changes with Chargeback Gurus? Schedule a demo here: 🤍 Visa is rolling out new changes to their schedule of interchange fees for the first time in a very long time. Interchange fees are fees that merchants must pay when they process a debit or credit card transaction (also known as "swipe fees"), and even though they may not be a lot of money per transaction, they can add up. The new changes from Visa's interchange fees will have some merchants seeing their fees go up and other seeing their fees go down, so it's important to understand how this affects your business individually. Visa has two reason for implementing these new changes and those are: optimizing acceptance and reflecting the current value of Visa products. The sectors that will likely see their interchange fees reduced are real estate, healthcare, education, rent, parking, and vending machines. The biggest sector that will see rising rates is in eCommerce. Merchants should have a plan for how they should prepare for this. Will they increase prices in order to make up for increased losses? If so, plan to notify customers where it may be necessary such as in recurring billing transactions. There is speculation that other card networks may start to follow Visa's new interchange fee changes, so it is very important for merchants to stay on top of news within the payments industry. #disputingcreditcardfraud #creditcardfraud #debitcarddispute #getyourmoneyback Do you need to know how to dispute credit card fraud and unauthorized transactions to your VISA or Mastercard debit or check card? The process has remained the same over the past 15+ years. You must immediately call your credit card issuer, bank, or financial institution and have them cancel your debit or credit card and issue a new card. You'll have to wait 7-10 business days to receive the new card, and you'll have to wait until those pending charges "hard post" to the account before you can file a dispute or claim. Once the charges aren't pending and have been debited out of your account, you can file an electronic funds transfer, or EFT dispute. The banker or customer service representative will ask you several questions, including but not limited to "Is there anyone who you may have given access to the card to?" Answer the questions truthfully, and never give anyone who isn't an authorized signer or joint owner on the account, access to your funds. Doing so puts you at risk of not only losing money but being able to file a claim.

Ready to learn how Chargeback Gurus can help you protect your business from fraud and chargebacks? Schedule a demo with us here: 🤍 There are three types of payment reversals that can take place after a transaction has already occurred. These are: authorization reversals, refunds, and chargebacks. Each of these is created differently, so it's important to understand them and how they can affect your business. The first type of payment reversal is an authorization reversal. An authorization reversal occurs when a payment that was just authorized is reversed. It happens immediately after a transaction, but before settlement occurs and money has been withdrawn from the customer’s account. One example of this would be if a customer changes their mind immediately after placing an order. Out of all the payment reversals, this one is the cheapest, fastest, and best option for giving money back to a customer. The next type of payment reversal is a refund. A refund is processed as a new and separate transaction that takes funds from the merchant account and credits it back to the customer’s payment card. Refunds are the best way to resolve a situation in which a customer is unhappy, so that it doesn't result in a chargeback with unnecessary fees. Chargebacks are the third type of payment reversals. Chargebacks are different from refunds in that they are initiated by the consumer's bank. Instead of calling the merchant for a refund, the customer calls the bank in order to receive their money back. However, chargebacks bring fees that don't come with authorization reversals or refunds and receiving too many chargebacks can result in a merchant losing their account. Because of this, it's always better to handle issues with customers before they result in chargebacks. Merchants who receive a high volume of chargebacks may look into outsourcing a company like Chargeback Gurus to help them prevent, fight, and recover their chargebacks. With their expertise, you can ensure that your chargebacks will be handled with expert knowledge and care.
