Biography and Past times of Sripad Madhvacharya 21 Super Facts of Madhvacharya Glories of Madhvacharya Sri Madhvacharya (1238-1317 A.D), also known as Vasudeva, Ananda Tirtha and Purnaprajna, is one of India’s greatest saint-philosophers. He was born of Tulu speaking parents at Udupi, Karnataka. The young Vasudeva, (Madhva’s boyhood name) expressed a desire to become an ascetic when he was eight years old. Madhva’s parents naturally objected and so it was not until he was about 16 years of age that he was able to leave home and become a sannyasi. From then on the young Vasudeva became known as Ananda Tirtha, the name given to him by his sannyasa guru. Ananda Tirtha later assumed the name Madhva by which he is most commonly known today. The philosophy he preached was previously known as ‘tattvavada’. Now it is known as ‘dwaita’. He boldly told a Muslim king: “By whatever name you may call, God is One.” He maintained that one’s religion is not decided by birth but by his nature and personality. Shankaracharya’s advaita-vedanta produced a profound dissatisfaction in the mind of the young Madhva, which often brought him into conflict with his teachers. In fact Madhva’s objection to advaita-vedanta became the most compelling force in this life and he spent much of his adult life arguing against this view of the world. After studying in Udupi, Madhva traveled to Tamil Nadu where he continued to meet and debate with advaita scholars. Madhva soon returned to Udupi, but after a short time he left to visit Veda Vyasa at Badari in the northern Himalayas. Many months passed and when he finally appeared he was resplendent and joyful. He had received the blessings of Vyasa. Upon his return to Udupi, he immediately began to write his famous Brahma-sutra commentary. Soon Madhva started his own temple in Udupi by installing a beautiful Deity of Bala Krishna. He obtained this Deity by saving a ship in distress near the coast of Udupi. Madhvacharya signaled the ship to shore by waving lamps and flags. Convinced that it was through the grace of Madhva that the ship was saved, the ship’s captain offered him a gift. Madhva chose the clay (gopi-chandana) that was used for the ship’s ballast. Upon washing the clay, Madhvacharya discovered a beautiful Deity of Sri Krishna, which He personally carried to Udupi and began to worship. This Deity of Krishna is still worshipped today in the central temple of Udupi. Madhva’s Udupi temple is one of the most important Krishna temples in India. The lamp beside this Deity of Krishna was lit by Madhvacharya himself and has never been extinguished. During his lifetime, Madhvacharya wrote many important commentaries on the Upanishads, Bhagavad-gita, Brahma-sutra, Mahabharata and the Bhagavata-purana. The final years of Madhva were spent in teaching and worship. In the end he instructed his followers not to sit still, but to go forth and preach. His biographers tell how Madhvacharya disappeared one evening while reciting his favorite text, the Aitareya Upanishad. #madhvacharya #madhvacharya21facts #madhvacharyaappearance #pasttimesofmadhvacharya #biographyofmadhvacharya #madhva #MadhvacharyaAvirbhav Watch detailed video on Sripad Madhvacharya: 🤍 Watch Appearance/Disappearance Day Lecture of other Acharya [21 Facts]: 🤍 Join our Telegram Channel for all updates: 🤍 You can ask your personal questions to Venugopal Charan Prabhu on Instagram & Facebook: 🤍venugopalcharandas Disclaimer: Video is for Educational Purpose only. Jayamu Jayamu Jaya Tirtha | Madhvacharya [Animated Web Narrative] | HG Maha Vishnu Dasa According to popular acceptance Shripad Jaya Tirtha renounced the world and took 'sannyasam' at twenty years of age (reputed to be in 1368). Shripad Jaya Tirtha's previous name was Dhondo Pantraya Raghunatha (Dhonduraya, Raghunath was his father's name), of either Viswamitra Gotra or Bharadwaja Gotra. He was the son of a high ranking military man and had two wives. Dhondo Pant, being like a local prince, was often seen dressed in full armour, breast plate, helmet and all, riding his mighty war horse around the area. He was a great horse-man, and would ride sometimes on journeys all over the district, accompanied by his men Dhondo Pant could now remember his time spent with Acharya Madhva, but he had been covered for so many years thinking that he was the son of a nobleman. Now he could remember all kinds of incidences that made his hair stand upon end in horripilations. He gained some intense realisations which enabled him to see quite clearly how previously he was actually the bullock who was used to pull around Acharya Madhva's books as Madhva travelled and preached all over. But most special and precious to him, he could actually remember Madhva, his commanding but sweet voice, elaborating upon the various Vedic literatures. For centuries, followers of Shankara, Ramanuja, and Madhva have argued stridently about the nature of absolute, universal reality - brahman. This divisiveness might possibly be harmful to sincere spiritual seekers. What can be done to resolve these differences? Vedanta is based on the teachings of the ancient rishis, teachings found in the last section of the ancient Vedic scriptures, Upanishads. It’s also based on the Bhagavad Gita and the highly analytical text, Brahma sutras. Shankara strictly interpreted each of those scriptures according to the principle of advaita, non-duality. Ramanuja interpreted each of them according to the principles of vishishta advaita, qualified nondualism. And Madhva interpreted each of them according to the principles of dvaita, duality. Other interpretations of those scriptures include: Bhedabheda of Yadava Prakasha Dvaitadvaita of Nimbarka Shuddhadvaita of Vallabha Achintya Bhedbheda of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu In commentaries and in scholarly texts like Advaita Siddhi of Madhusudana Sarasvati, the followers of all these great Vedantic traditions have always disagreed and argued about the nature of brahman - being with or without qualities or characteristics - nirguna, saguna, nirvishesha, or savishesha. They also argued about the nature of the material world: satyam, mithya, real, false, separate, or non-separate. And they argued about the nature of the individual person, jiva. In their arguments, they often used a powerful scholarly technique called purva-paksha siddhanta, in which an opposing point of view is deliberately introduced and developed for the sake of discussion. Then, it is thoroughly refuted by showing its defects according to traditional logic, nyaya, and new logic, navya nyaya. These three Vedantic perspectives can be reconciled through the important principle of adhikari bheda, the principle of recognizing the differences (bheda) among spiritual seekers (adhikaris), that each person has different religious preferences and spiritual needs. In this way, the teachings of advaita, vishishtadvaita, and dvaita can be understood to serve the needs of different groups of students. Each teaching is capable of leading them to moksha, liberation. 0:00 Shankara, Ramanuja & Madhva 9:14 The Problem of Divisiveness 19:58 Reconciling the Three Perspectives Credits: Editorial assistant - Vasanthi Sunil Artwork assistant - Nilson Oliveira Artwork courtesy of Himalayan Academy 🤍 Swami Tadatmananda is a traditionally-trained teacher of Advaita Vedanta, meditation, and Sanskrit. Disappearance of Srila #Madhvacharya February 14, 2019 Today is the disappearance day of Sri Madhvacarya, who is the sampradaya-acharya of our Brahma-Madhva-Gaudiya Vaisnava Sampradaya. Srila Prabhupada: “Srila Madhvacharya is the original acharya for those who belong to the Madhva-Gaudiya-sampradaya.” (Srimad Bhagavatam, 6.1.40.Purport) "This Madhva-Gaudiya-sampradaya is also known as the Brahma-sampradaya because the disciplic succession originally began from Brahma. Brahma instructed the sage Narada, Narada instructed Vyasadeva, and Vyasadeva instructed Madhva Muni, or Madhvacharya…” (Krishna Book, Introduction) CC Adi 1.19 Purport – the devotees of Orissa are called Udiyas, the devotees of Bengal are called Gaudiyas, and the devotees of southern India are known as Dravida devotees. As there are five provinces in Aryavarta, so Daksinatya, southern India, is also divided into five provinces, which are called Pancha-dravida. The four Vaisnava acharyas who are the great authorities of the four Vaisnava disciplic successions, as well as Sripada Sankaracharya of the Mayavada school, appeared in the Pancha-dravida provinces. Among the four Vaisnava acharyas, who are all accepted by the Gaudiya Vaishnavas, Sri Ramanuja Acharya appeared in the southern part of Andhra Pradesh at Mahabhutapuri, Sri Madhva Acharya appeared at Pajakam (near Vimanagiri) in the district of Mangalore, Sri Visnusvami appeared at Pandya, and Sri Nimbarka appeared at Mungera-patana in the extreme south.Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu accepted the chain of disciplic succession from Madhva Acharya, but the Vaishnavas in His line do not accept the tattva-vadis, who also claim to belong to the Madhva-sampradaya. To distinguish themselves clearly from the tattva-vadi branch of Madhva’s descendants, the Vaishnavas of Bengal prefer to call themselves Gaudiya Vaishnavas. Sri Madhva Acharya is also known as Sri Gauda-purnananda, and therefore the name Madhva-Gaudiya-sampradaya is quite suitable for the disciplic succession of the Gaudiya Vaishnavas. Our spiritual master, Om Vishnupada Srimad Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Gosvami Maharaja, accepted initiation in the Madhva-Gaudiya-sampradaya. #SriMadhavacharya #Iskcon Beautiful Drama based on Life and Teachings of Shripad Madhavacharya performed by Devotees of Sri Sri RadhaGopinath Community at their Annual Drama Festival. Shri Madhvacharya appeared in 1238 A.D. near Udupi, Karnataka in South India. He was considered an incarnation of Vayu (wind god). He had an unusually strong physique and extraordinary intellectual power. Once a fierce Bengali tiger attacked Madhvacharya's sannyasa disciple, Satya Tirtha. Madhvacharya wrestled the tiger and sent him away with his tail between his legs. Madhvacharya took diksha at age five, sannyasa at twelve, and left home. He appeared with a mission to fight and defeat Sankara's Mayavada (impersonal) philosophy. By giving a pure interpretation of Vedanta-sutra he promoted pure theism. He named his innovative shastric explanation dvaita-dvaita-vada (pure dualism). After Shankaracharya, who had previously toured India spreading impersonalism, Madhvacarya also traveled the length and breadth of India preaching personal theism and devotion to Lord Vishnu. He defeated innumerable Jains, Buddhists, Mayavadis, atheists, logicians, and agnostics. With hope of meeting Shrila Vyasadeva himself Madhvacharya walked up the Himalayas. Vyasadeva gave him a Shalagrama sila called Ashtamurti, approved his Bhagavad-gita commentary, and blessed Madhvacharya with deeper realizations of the sastras. In Udupi, Madhvacharya installed a beautiful Deity of Gopala standing alone holding a cow herding stick. This Deity manifested from within a chunk of gopi-candana (sacred clay). He established eight mathas (Temples) to lovingly serve "Udupi Krishna." The sannyasi leaders of each matha worship the Krishna Deity with a rigorous regimen of ceremonial ritual, punctuality, and impeccable personal conduct. Every Ekadashi they observe nirjala (total fast all food and water). The Gaudiya Vaishnava sampradaya originates with the Madhvas. Shri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu and His followers thoroughly studied Madhva's works before compiling their philosophy. For the Sat Sandarbhas Shri Jiva Goswami drew heavily from Madhva's writings. Jiva Goswami found 'the Gaudiya philosophy of acintya-bheda-abheda tattva in Madhva's Bhagavat-parya. Shri Chaitanya Himself visited Udupi, the seat of Madhva's sect. The Lord introduced Hari Nama sankirtana into their sect.

Madhvacharya was born on the west coast of Karnataka state in 13th-century India .As a teenager, he became a Sanyasi (monk) joining Brahma-sampradaya guru Achyutapreksha, of the Ekadandi order. Madhva studied the classics of Hindu philosophy, particularly the Principal Upanishads, the Bhagavad Gita and the Brahma Sutras (Prasthanatrayi). He commented on these, and is credited with thirty seven works in Sanskrit. His writing style was of extreme brevity and condensed expression. His greatest work is considered to be the Anuvyakhyana, a philosophical supplement to his bhasya on the Brahma Sutras composed with a poetic structure. In some of his works, he proclaimed himself to be an avatar of Vayu, the son of god Vishnu. He was a critic of Adi Shankara's Advaita Vedanta and Ramanuja's Vishishtadvaita Vedanta teachings. He toured India several times, visiting places such as Bengal, Varanasi, Dwarka, Goa and Kanyakumari, engaging in philosophical debates and visiting Hindu centres of learning. Madhva established the Krishna Mutt at Udupi with a murti secured from Dwarka Gujarat in CE 1285. Madhvācārya's teachings are built on the premise that there is a fundamental difference between Atman (individual soul, self) and the Brahman (ultimate reality, God Vishnu), these are two different unchanging realities, with individual soul dependent on Brahman, never identical. His school's theistic dualism teachings disagreed with the monist teachings of the other two most influential schools of Vedanta based on Advaita's nondualism and Vishishtadvaita's qualified nondualism. Liberation, asserted Madhva, is achievable only through the grace of God. The Dvaita school founded by Madhva influenced Vaishnavism, the Bhakti movement in medieval India, and has been one of the three influential Vedānta philosophies, along with Advaita Vedanta and Vishishtadvaita Vedanta. Madhva's historical influence in Hinduism, state Kulandran and Kraemer, has been salutary, but not extensive. Balamuralikrishna (Balamurali Krishna) Dvadasha stotra is a series of 12 Stotras composed by Sri Madhvacharya, the founder of the Tattvavada or Dvaita school of philosophy. 'Dvadasha' in Sanskrit means 12 and all the 12 stotras are in praise of Lord Vishnu. It is believed that the stotras were composed in connection with the installation of the idol of Lord Krishna at Udupi. While most of the 12 stotras are praises of the Lord, the third stotra is actually a summary of Madhvacharya's philosophy. 🤍

Full information of Sripad Madhcacharya Life History and Past times Shri Madhvacharya appeared in 1238 A.D. near Udupi, Karnataka in South India. Madhvacharya took diksha at age five, sannyasa at twelve and left home. He appeared with a mission to fight and defeat Sankara's Mayavada (impersonal) philosophy. By giving a pure interpretation of Vedanta-sutra he promoted pure theism. He named his innovative shastric explanation dvaita-dvaita-vada (pure dualism). After Shankaracharya, who had previously toured India spreading impersonalism, Madhvacarya also traveled the length and breadth of India preaching personaltheism and devotion to Lord Vishnu. He defeated innumerable Jains, Buddhists, Mayavadis, atheists, logicians, and agnostics. With a hope of meeting Shrila Vyasadeva himself Madhvacharya walked up the Himalayas. Vyasadeva gave him a Shalagrama sila called Ashtamurti, approved his Bhagavad-gita commentary, and blessed Madhvacharya with deeper realizations of the sastras. In Udupi, Madhvacharya installed a beautiful Deity of Gopala standing alone holding a cowherding stick. This Deity manifested from within a chunk of gopi-candana (sacred clay). He established eight mathas (Temples) to lovingly serve "Udupi Krishna." The sannyasi leaders of each matha worship the Krishna Deity with a rigorous regimen of ceremonial ritual, punctuality, and impec-cable personal conduct. The Madhvas and Gaudiyas share many of the same philosophical points. Both consider it necessary to surrender to the lotus feet of the guru (gurupadashraya). In Sutra Bhasya, Madhvacharya cites the Brihat Tantra and Mahasamhita to show that a disciple may reject a "bogus guru" who proves to be useless. He may then accept another qualified self-realized person as his guru. #venugopalcharandas #iskcon #madhvacharya #appearance #day #devotees #harekrishna In Prameya-ratnavalli, Shri Baladeva Vidyabhushana summarized the nine principles common to both Shri Chaitanya's and Madhva's teachings. In Vaishnava Siddhanta Mala, Shrila Bhaktivinoda Thakura says Shri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu ordered all Gaudiya Vaishnavas to carefully observe the nine instructions of truth given by Shri Madhavacharya through our guru parampara. Shri Madhvacharya's Nine Teachings (1) Bhagavan Shri Krishna alone is the Supreme Absolute Truth, one without a second. (2) He is the object of knowledge in all the Vedas. (3) The universe is real, satya. (4) The differences between Ishvara (God), Jiva (soul) and Matter are real. (5) Jiva souls are by nature the servants of the Supreme Lord Hari. (6) There are two categories of jivas; liberated and illusioned. (7) Liberation (moksha) means attainmg the lotus feet of Bhagavan Krishna, in other words, entering an eternal relationship of service to the Supreme Lord. (8) Pure devotional service to Krishna is the only way to attain this liberation. (9) The truth may be known by pratyaksha (direct perception), anuman (inference or logic), sabda (spiritual sound or Vedic authority. Shri Madhvacharya serves as Madhavi-gopi in Radha-Govinda's eternal Vrindavana pleasure pastimes. #venugopalcharandas #madhvacharya #teachingsofmadhvacharya #pasttimesofmadhvacharya #sripadmadhvacharya #madhvasampradaya #association #iskcon #21facts Join our Telegram Channel for all updates: 🤍 You can ask your personal questions to Venugopal Charan Prabhu on Instagram & Facebook: 🤍venugopalcharandas Disclaimer: Video is for Educational Purpose only. Glories of Sri Madhvacarya Today Lord Rama left from Kishkindha to gain victory over Ravana. And today is also the appearance day of Sri Madhvacarya from our sampradaya. He accepted sannyasa at a very young age. Once, he had gone to bathe in the sea. A Deity of Krsna holding a yogurt-churning rod manifested to him. Although [the Madhvas] worship Bala-Gopala, Kisora Krsna, but the mood is like worshipping Laksmi-Narayana. Madhvacarya composed many scriptures and among those, his commentary on Brahma-sutra is most famous. He defeated the arguments of Advaita-vada which was prevalent during his time, especially those of Sankaracarya. The main philosophy he preached was bheda-vada [Dualist or Dvaita]. As none of the other sampradayas worshipped Gopala-krsna [the youthful Krsna of Vraja], Śrī Caitanya Mahaprabhu accepted the Madhva sampradaya. Especially Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakura has presented this consideration- Those who do not accept Śrī Brahma-Madhva-Gaudiya sampradaya, and specially don’t accept Sri Madhvacarya as the sampradayika-guru and those who separate Sri Baladeva Vidyabhushan from the disciplic line, are the servants of Kali. Such individuals are not pure devotees.
