Even though good mics and other gear are super affordable right now, people still often have a hard time making their audio sound really professional. Even buying more expensive microphones or software often doesn't help. That's because it isn't just about the gear. In fact, it's MORE about the way your record - your setup, how you use your mic, and what you do with the software, etc. But a lot of folks get stuck on that part. So the purpose of this course is to help people get the best audio quality from whatever mic or software you use. You may find out you do not need to buy a more expensive mic. You just need to learn a bit more about the techniques. And this course will help you do that.
Get your free videos from The Newbies Guide To Audio Recording Awesomeness - showing you how to use Audacity and Reaper recording software. 🤍 The above excerpt from the course, "Harmony Recording Awesomeness," 🤍 - shows how to use ReaVoice - an effect in Reaper audio recording software - to create 2 harmony parts from audio of the melody being sung by an actual human. The results are...interesting. As we point out in the course, the best vocal harmonies are the ones sung by real people. And it's usually faster and much easier to just sing them anyway. But there is interest out there in using software to create harmonies, so Lesson 10 in the course demonstrates how to use 3 programs: ReaVoice, Vielklang Instant Harmony, and Harmony Engine EVO. Here is the first in a weekly series giving you tips to make your audio recordings sound more professional. 🤍 Most home recording studios are set up in a spare room at, well, home:). This is very convenient but the audio quality is usually not all that great. The reasons for this are many. But one of the biggies is bad room sound. These spare rooms in our homes tend to be very boxy in that there are 4 walls, and each wall is parallel with the one opposite. For example, the front wall of your studio is probably parallel with the back wall, and the side walls are parallel with each other. When we record our voices in rooms like this, they tend to sound very echo-y and reverb-y because the sound is bouncing off the walls repeatedly and making us sound like we're recording in a bathroom or something. but you can minimize this bad room sound a lot by using just a few easy techniques. You won't even have to buy or build anything to implement these immediately, and see (or better yet - HEAR) an immediate improvement. This first tip will take you about 5 seconds. These techniques are host effective for voice-over recording (as in standard voiceovers, podcasts, video narration, etc.) where you have nothing to mask any of the room sound like you would if you were recording music.

Note: In order to get to the screen that gives you the option of turning Tempo Matching on/off, go to the Menu Bar and choose View. then in the drop-down, choose "Media Explorer." that info was not in the video. Sorry about that! Creating and working with loops is really easy in Reaper - 🤍 One of the problems people run into when they have lots of different loops of different tempos is that it becomes difficult to use those loops in the same song without somehow making sure the tempos of all the audio files are the same. Reaper makes this easy with its Tempo Matching function! While you are auditioning loops in a Reaper project, you'll notice that there is a drop-down menu in the Media Explorer window that says "Tempo Matching Off" (it's the default). If you turn Temp Matching on, then each loop you drag into a Reaper track will have its tempo matched to Reapers project tempo. It is awesome sauce!

Nintendo 3DS COOLEST MODS!! You can play a Nintendo 3DS using a regular controller (Nintendo Switch Controller, XBox controller, etc) with Homebrew installed! Definitely my favourite part of Homebrew on the Nintendo 3DS. Only downside is there are still some games/ minigames where you need to move your DS to play, and you still have to use your touch screen if it's necessary. To use this feature, I also use an input redirection client on my PC and I *think* your 3DS and PC have to be connected to the same Wi-Fi network for this to work Previous YouTube Short on Nintendo 3DS: You can actually record the screens of this Nintendo 3DS with a built-in capture card, cool Nintendo tech console add-ons! Here I review a different kind of microphone. It's called a "spatial" or "binaural" mic. It's the Sonic Presence SP15. It's not designed to record YOU, but rather to record what you are hearing. The listener then hears what you heard, the way you heard it. So it's perfect for recording experiences and events, such as live music, parties, sounds of nature, etc. I tested it in a bunch of different types of situations, so the video is a bit longer than usual. You can use the Chapters to navigate around to help with that. Also, use headphones when watching this video! It is the only way to really hear what this mic can do. Learn how to patch a mistake in an audio track here: 🤍 Using a second track, you can record along with the section of an audio track that has a mistake, or anything that might not sound good (like finger buzzing on a guitar, etc.). Then you can split the original audio item and peel back - literally - the part of the audio that contains the offending audio, and patch it with the audio from the second track - the "fix track." Then just cross-fade the seams and you can create a seamless sounding audio where the mistake previously was. This example uses Reaper recording software, but the process is the same with any multi-track recording program (DAW).
Here is how to render (save as) many separate files from a single Reaper project, and have each file saved with its own file name. It's a bulk (or batch) process. So it all happens at once, in the same Render action. this is SUPER helpful if you have to split a single audio item into a bunch of smaller audio items (see my video on how to do that here: 🤍 and then each of those small sections has to be saved as a separate file with its own file name. Imagine having a job where you have to split a long audio into 90 smaller audios (I had this job), and then create 90 mp3 files and name all 90 files manually! That would take forever. So by using the process to split your audios into smaller ones (that linked video above), and then using the process in this video, you can create all those files in about 5 or 10 minutes. this can save you sooooo much time.
🤍 Here is how to apply an effect to just one small section of audio in one track in Reaper. That effect will NOT be applied to any of the other audio on the track. You do this by splitting out the section you want to apply FX to (Shift-S) and using the Take FX function in Item Properties.

Testing a very basic software defined radio on the 80 and 40 metre amateur bands. Uses the easy to use SDRadio software developed by I2PHD (see 🤍sdradio.org/ ) and a simple hardware interface which is a direct conversion receiver without audio filter or amplifier stages. Apart from an RF amplifier (not really necessary) all the receiver's gain comes from the computer (microphone in used, not Line in). This is a very 'bare bones' implementation for use with a low-end laptop with a mono soundcard input. Unlike a 'proper' SDR there is no image rejection. Hence signals will appear twice on the spectrum display (one USB and the other LSB) and some juggling may be required to dodge interference. Also signal to noise ratio will never be as good as a single-signal receiver. The hardware unit comprises of (i) transistor VFO (using ceramic resonators for 3.58 MHz (80m) and 7.2 MHz (40m), (ii) buffer stage, (iii) single balanced diode product detector and (iv) transistor RF amplifier (optional). Your favourite direct conversion receiver circuit without audio filtering or amplification would work fine. This unit is USB powered but a 9 volt battery would also be OK if you want to keep it independent from the computer (this also helps reduce interference radiated from the computer). Performance isn't as good as a home station rig but in some aspects is better than a basic direct conversion receiver. The AGC is a bit slow for my liking and it would be good to have an option to switch it off. There is a slight delay between when you adjust a setting and when the resultant audio is produced. A weak signal is generally clearer and less noisy on the commercial rig as well. And tuning can be fiddly when trying to null out an interfering signal on the opposite image (a full SDR with stereo sound card would fix this). Nevertheless for its simplicity this is a good receiver and would be a good beginners project. As a starting point, build a simple direct conversion receiver without the audio filtering or much audio gain. A strong detector - eg a diode single or double balanced type - is suggested. In response to questions about kits, I am not in the kit production business. However circuits and full constructional details appeared in the September and October 2011 issues of the WIA's Amateur Radio magazine ( 🤍wia.org.au to join/subscribe). In addition you can find the circuit on VK5TM's website ( 🤍vk5tm.com ). Want to try a more advanced commercially made SDR with a very wide frequency range? Spitting an audio item on a track in Reaper is a super useful thing to be able to do. I use it all the time. It allows you to line things up with other tracks, correct drum tempo, and lots of other things. HOWEVER, if you are not careful you can end up affecting all audio items on all tracks. I made this mistake many times before I realized what was happening. this video should help you to avoid that by doing just a very simple thing before slicing up your audio.
