يعود تاريخ الحمامات في عاصمة الشمال طرابلس الى 2500 سنة، إذ بناها المماليك وفق الطريقة التقليدية الرومانية والبيزنطية ويتعايش فيها الواقع مع الماضي فتجاور المباني الأثرية الأبنية الحديثة في الأسواق الشعبية، التي سرعان ما كثرت في المدن الكبيرة لتصبح جزءا من الحضارة الشرقية . حمام عز الدين الذي يقع في محلة باب الحديد، يعتبر من أشهر الحمامات في طرابلس وقدأقيم على أنقاض كنيسة لاتينية قديمة، وتبلغ مساحته 745 متراً مربعاً... هذا الحمام هو الحمام الأول الذي بناه المماليك في طرابلس وهو أكبر حماماتها وأكثرها أهمية، ويطلّ على الشارع من بوابة يعلوها عقد مع كتابة لاتينية بالأحرف الكبرى التي تعود للعصور الوسطى وعلى عتبة البوابة صورة حمل تحوط رأسه هالة، وهو الحمل الذي يضحى به في عيد الفصح، وحوله زهرتان، وفوقها نقش. الدخول من هذه البوابة يفضي الى صالة واسعة مصلّبة الشكل وفي وسطها نافورة متعددة الزوايا، وتعلو هذه الصالة قبّة فيها قمريات للإضاءة وكل هذه العناصر تميّز الغرفة المسماة (بالمشلح) حيث تخلع الثياب فيها إذ يترك الزائر ثيابه في خزانات كما يمكنه ترك (قبقابه) في كوّة صغيرة مصطفة تحت المقاعد، وبعد الحمام يرتاح على آرائك، وهذا المكان الوحيد في الحمام الذي لا تصل اليه الحرارة والبخار وتترك فيه كل الأغراض. ومن (المشلح) يكون الدخول الى الأقسام الثلاثة: البارد، والفاتر، والساخن، التي تصل بينها ممرات فيها أنابيب لسحب البخار، والغرفة الساخنة وكانت تسخّن بأنابيب بخار حارّة جداً تمرّ في الجدران وتخرج من فتحات. ولتفادي أي خسارة بنى المماليك الجدران السميكة جداً من دون أن تكون فيها أي نافذة، أما الإضاءة فكانت تتم بواسطة قعر القناني الزجاجية الملونة، خضراء أو زرقاء وضعت في القمريات، ما يعطي سحراً مميزاً. والحمام يحتضن ضريح الباني قرب نافذة عليها كتابة تاريخية ونقوش تمثّل شعاره. The visitor leaves his clothes in cabinets and he can leave A small corner under the seats, after the bathroom relaxes on your views, this is the only place in the bathroom that does not reach the heat and steam and leave all the objects. It is the entrance to the three sections: the cold, the notebooks, and the hot, with corridors with steam pipes and the hot chamber. They were heated by very hot steam pipes passing through the walls and coming out of the openings. To avoid any loss, the Mamluks built very thick walls Without any window, and the lighting was done by the bottom of the glass bottles colored, green or blue placed in the lunar, which gives a distinctive charm. The bathroom embraces the mausoleum of the builder near a window with a historical inscription and inscriptions representing his motto.

Hammam culture has become widespread, not only in Turkey, but also in other Islamic countries. During my Palestine trip, I had a great opportunity to visit the oldest hammam in Palestine, built almost 400 years ago. Through interactions with locals there, I got a glimpse of deep Palestinian culture that I would’ve never known before.
